Rowlesburg, WV 2008

On June 29, we exhibited at Rowlesburg, WV. We set up our Soviet exhibit.

World War II Reenacting/Living History is a relatively new segment of the hobby in West Virginia, but it is growing in interest in the Reenactor community and also is attracting the interest of the general public. Rowlesburg, WV puts on a fine annual event on the last weekend of June each year.

This year was a struggle due to absolutely wretched weather conditions, but those of us who attended still managed to have a good time and engage more spectators than we might have expected given the amount of rain that pummeled us that weekend.

The event is sponsored by The Greatest Generation Society, a project of Jef Verswyvel and his wife, Maggie. These  two great folks also run the WWII Museum in Rowlesburg. They appreciate reenactors and do everything in their power to make this event a great experience for participants. This includes a lot of food and ice when needed as well as an amazing Big Band dance and free access to the wet bar for reenactors!

Rowlesburg is a wonderful event. If you haven’t checked it out, you should. It’s a reenactor friendly atmosphere and the townsfolk really make you feel welcomed. The Big Band dance and open bar is a real treat and the breakfast served at the local VFW would feed 10 Armies. Kudos Jim and Don representing the Russian element during the fashion show. Don’s Russian is quite good. Thanks to Jim for keeping us refreshed and hope you enjoyed the borscht. Misha, 193rd Rifle Division, RKKA

Jim, Linda and I had a wonderful time in Rowlesburg. Linda especiaslly enjoyed the fashion show and the dance. I enjoyed changing uniforms often to confuse the public. I enjoyed talking to the 80+ year old ww2 veterans.

Jim, Help, I’m posting and I can’t stop. Also I noticed that I can’t spell either.
