2012 – A Retrospective

OBV November 2012

2012 has been an interesting year, with more than its share of ups and downs, to be sure. As some of you know, I have had some personal bumps in the road, including some unpleasant health problems, which have affected my ability to get out to events as well as mind this blog as much as I would like. Still, I did make it out to a number of events and I thought it might be interesting to do a review of the past year’s activities. Here goes:

Well, I guess I did do a few things this year despite everything.

Seriously, with my age and health, I am going to have to be a little more selective about what I do in the future. So, I need more correspondents to keep this thing going. Bill and Mike and a few others are able to help me a lot, but we can use some other contributors. I would also like to get some folks to report on other time periods.

So, if you are interested in getting your 15 seconds of fame (no money, unfortunately) drop me an email. Thanks!

Jim

Jim – It has been a long time since I checked this site. I feel really bad I have not been contributing in 2012. I have been to mostly Federal General’s Corps events and too few of those as I work during the summer and only take off for two weekends in the summer as my work is on weekends – me being a seasonal park naturalist. I make spring, fall and no winter events past the first weekend for the Civil War Christmas at OBV. Was there this year and we had a great time plus had our workshop. Also was at R-Day with the FGC a couple of weeks before OBV. My free time writing has been taken up by a couple of novel projects (both maritime historical fiction) and searching for a literary agent. In Feb of 2012 Salvo Press published my maritime historical novel DARK WATERS, about the Lusitania disaster. I have to do most of the marketing and can only do it through free ads like FaceBook, blogging etc. as I am working with small independent royalty publishers (not self-publishing) with no marketing by the publisher except on their site and Amazon etc. My budget is $0. They did put the book with a major agent to be marketed as a book to movie, and I’m trying not to get too excited as that happened a year ago. So things have been a little crazy. But I will make an effort in 2013 to get some FGC event reports to you. Sorry to hear about your health. Hope the problems are resolved soon. A knee has finished my running around in combat reenacting, but I prefer living history, the challenge of research and becoming someone else to bring history alive for the public. Might be able to check out the Battle of the Bulge event in 2013. Got to find out when it is and decided to check this site at the same time.
